Final exams are near and approaching fast, and many Grand Rapids Community College students are swamped with schoolwork in preparation for multiple tests or essays. After all this work, students are likely to suffer from burnout and in great need of a brain break. The Latino Student Union is presenting those students with the perfect opportunity to decompress before finals.
On April 9, the Latino Student Union will be presenting “Noche De Lotería,” a Mexican bingo and game night from 4 to 6 p.m. The event will be hosted at Sneden Hall in room 108. Kesia Rodriguez, the president of the Latino Student Union, strives to create a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere on campus.
“Our goal for this event is to host a fun game night along with a de-stressor activity as finals are approaching,” Rodriguez said. “Since we are nearing the last two LSU (Latin Student Union) member meetings of the semester, we wanted to make them enjoyable and create something that everyone can come and be a part of within the LSU student organization.”
The highlight of the event is Mexican bingo, a culturally traditional and colorful version of the well-known classic. Mexican bingo is not the only game making an appearance. “We will also have other games available for those who may not want to participate in that,” Rodriguez said. UNO, dominos, and other card games are possible alternatives.
Rodriguez emphasized that all students are invited to participate. “The biggest thing I would like others to know is that everyone is welcome to join us, even if it’s just for a little while,” Rodriguez said. “Feel free to stop by, bring friends, and take the opportunity to meet new people and build connections.”
The event follows a major achievement for the organization after being awarded as the Best New Student Organization at this year’s Student Leadership Awards. With games, community, and relaxation, “Noche De Lotería” offers students an opportunity to unwind before the final stretch of the semester.
