Last week, Constancio Nakuma, PhD, announced he would be stepping down from the position as provost effective Feb. 1.

Nakuma shared with Interim Chancellor Ann Schmiesing, PhD, and incoming Chancellor Ken Christensen, PhD, that he believes this is the right time to pass on the leadership baton. Nakuma has agreed to stay on to consult with the chancellor and interim provost into the summer, at which time he will depart CU Denver.

Incoming Chancellor Christensen is working on a plan for interim leadership and the transition, which we will share with the community shortly.

In the three and a half years since Nakuma joined our community, he has been unwavering in his commitment to the university. “I hope you will join me in thanking him for his service to CU Denver and that you will extend some grace and flexibility to him and his team as they prepare for this transition,” Schmiesing said in her campus note to faculty and staff last week.
