Maverick Carter, the longtime business partner and childhood friend of LeBron James, wants a judge to eliminate the $25,000 in monthly child support he currently pays his ex, Crystal Streets, for their 18-year-old daughter.
Carter argues that the circumstances behind the existing arrangement have changed because their daughter now lives at a full-time boarding school whose costs he says he pays directly.
Streets wants the court to go in the opposite direction, asking for the monthly amount to rise to $35,000 while arguing that her parental responsibilities have not disappeared simply because their daughter attends school away from home.
The competing requests appear in court documents obtained by TMZ. The case reached a hearing Sept. 15, but the judge has not issued a final ruling. The court instead suspended Carter’s existing support obligation for three months while considering the matter.
Carter Says He Already Covers His Daughter’s Expenses Directly
Carter’s request centers on his daughter’s living arrangement. He says she attends boarding school full time, that he pays the school’s costs in full and that Streets consequently has little “meaningful” custodial time while their daughter lives away from home.
Carter maintains that eliminating the monthly payment to Streets would not mean ending his financial support for their daughter. He says he already pays directly for everything she needs.
Complex reports that Carter is represented in the case by celebrity family-law attorney Laura Wasser. Carter also points to his daughter’s age. She turned 18 in July, and he argues that the court no longer has jurisdiction over custody issues involving her as an adult.
Streets Wants the Payment Increased to $35,000 Instead
Streets is asking the judge to continue support while their daughter finishes school and increase the monthly amount to $35,000. She argues in the filings that Carter’s financial resources support a higher payment and claims he is worth more than $100 million.
She also says $35,000 was not a figure created for the latest dispute. According to TMZ, Streets claims the two agreed to that amount in 2024 but never formally completed the arrangement because of disruptions related to the California wildfires.
Streets disputes Carter’s description of her involvement in their daughter’s life as well. She says she continues providing emotional support, coordinating travel and meeting other needs while their daughter attends boarding school.
TMZ reports that the filings also contain an email dated Dec. 28, 2025, that appears to have been sent by Carter to Streets. “Dealing with you is the only thing bad about my life, and I’ll be soooo happy when it’s over,” the message attributed to Carter says.
Turning 18 Does Not Automatically End Child Support in California
Carter’s argument about custody jurisdiction is separate from the question of when a child-support obligation ends. California Courts says support generally ends when a child turns 18 and has graduated from high school.
If an unmarried 18-year-old is still attending high school full time and cannot support themselves, the obligation generally continues until graduation or age 19, whichever comes first. The California Child Support Services agency provides the same general rule.
Whether that rule applies to Carter and Streets’ particular circumstances, and what amount should be paid while their daughter remains in school, are questions for the court. The judge has not yet ruled on their competing requests.
Carter Is Co-CEO of Fulwell Entertainment
Carter’s public profile comes largely from his decades-long personal and business relationship with James, but his current work extends beyond projects tied directly to the basketball star.
He co-founded The SpringHill Company, which built brands including UNINTERRUPTED, SpringHill, The Shop and The Robot Company. SpringHill and its brands merged with Fulwell 73 Productions in 2024 to form Fulwell Entertainment.
Live Nation, where Carter has served as a director since 2018, identifies him as co-CEO of Fulwell Entertainment and credits him with helping build LRMR Ventures and secure James’ lifetime Nike agreement. Carter also became a partner in Fenway Sports Group in 2021 and serves on multiple corporate and nonprofit boards.
An MIT Sloan biography identifies Carter as Fulwell’s co-CEO and notes that he co-founded SpringHill Entertainment with James in 2008 before helping expand their business portfolio through ventures including LRMR.
