One of San Antonio’s last classic McDonald’s locations is moving to a new area early next month, according to a sign posted on the fast-food restaurant’s door.
The McDonald’s at 2922 Blanco Road will move into its new home at 1338 Fresno Street, the sign said.
The old Blanco location is one of the last McDonald’s locations in our area with the classic facade before the chain began transitioning to more boxy-designed buildings. The new Fresno Street location isn’t too far from the old McDonald’s, just about a half-mile west of Blanco restaurant.
Residents in a Facebook group called San Antonio Restaurants weighed in on the move. Some were disappointed that the restaurant is losing its classic facade.
“This may seem silly but I’m actually disappointed that the Mcdonald’s on Blanco & Fresno is moving locations!” wrote Caitlin Mendoza in a Facebook post. “The current location is one of the last few, if not THE last, in San Antonio that still has not been restored to their new look. It’s nostalgic for me so I’m sad to see it come to an end.”
“So they are moving to the fresno and I10 exit …that is a bad move,” wrote Mario Olivo in response to the post.
“I’ve been going here forever & when I went to Edison this was the spot with all the late night trips here as a teen & then with my family. I mean i know it ain’t going far but still love the old look of the building,” commented Facebook user Lisa Lisa BoBisa.
“The McDonald’s that time forgot,” wrote Laurentius Russell in response to the post.
The new McDonald’s location on Fresno Street will open on October 7.
