A second, larger location of Little Five Points (L5P) sports bar Brewhouse Cafe will open next year in South Downtown.

Situated along Broad Street, around the corner from Historic Hotel Row, the opening of the South Downtown location will come just weeks ahead of eight FIFA World Cup soccer matches taking place in June and July at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The sports bar will be a 15-minute walk to the stadium via MLK Jr. Drive.

Brewhouse Cafe opened in 1997 at the corner of Moreland and McLendon in L5P and has since become one of the city’s most popular soccer bars, especially for catching early morning matches from overseas. In March, Men in Blazers named Brewhouse Cafe “the best soccer bar in the U.S.,” seeing it beat out 1,600 other contenders for the 2025 title.

In addition to being a regular gathering place for passionate soccer fans, Brewhouse Cafe also hosts fans of NFL and college football, rugby, and even cricket. During big sporting events, like the World Cup and the Olympics, Brewhouse Cafe will open at 5 a.m., showing multiple games at once on its 27 televisions.

Brewhouse Cafe features an extensive beer list, as well as classic cocktails such as the Old Fashioned, Dark and Stormy, and three variations on the Painkiller. Pub fare ranges from wings, pizza, and burgers to steak dinners, fish and chips, and brunch on the weekends. Expect similar offerings in South Downtown.

Along with open locations of Tyde Tate Thai Kitchen and Spiller Park Coffee, Brewhouse Cafe joins a number of new restaurants slated to open in South Downtown over the coming months. These include neighboring Broad Street BBQ, from the owners of Adair Park sandwich shop Sammy’s, a yet-named restaurant from chefs Todd Ginsberg and Josh Kim, and locations of El Tesoro and Delilah’s Everyday Soul.

Bottle Rocket, known for its sushi, burgers, and cocktails, relocates from nearby Castleberry Hill to South Downtown by the end of the year. The owners plan to host a Halloween party on Oct. 31, Bottle Rocket’s final night of service on Walker Street before the move to Mitchell Street.

Smorgasburg, a weekly South Downtown food festival, will debut on Oct. 18 in a parking lot at the intersection of Forsyth and Trinity. The weekend market will feature 40 food vendors, a bar serving beer, wine, and cocktails, and retail and artist stalls.

Atlanta Tech Village founders Jon Birdsong and David Cummings purchased the South Downtown redevelopment project in 2023 from German developer Newport RE. The entire project includes 56 buildings and six acres of parking lots.

Birdsong and Cummings have continued the sympathetic renovations of the buildings started by Newport to maintain the historic character and charm of the old commercial district.
