Make sure you stay weather aware. Many severe thunderstorm warnings were issued throughout the evening. Torrential rainfall from those severe storms created a flooding risk for several areas.
In Atlanta, one person had to be helped out from a vehicle stuck in water.
The National Weather Service in Atlanta reports flash flood warnings across most of Cherokee County and Forsyth County, extending southward over Cobb County, most of Fulton County, and portions of DeKalb County and Clayton County.
Flash flooding is especially significant across Grant Park, Zoo Atlanta, East Point, Hapeville, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, College Park and Forest Park. The flooding is impacting traffic along Interstate 75.

The storms also caused fallen trees and power lines. More than 33,000 Georgia Power customers have no power as of 9:07 p.m., and more than 8,000 Georgia EMC customers have no power.

There have been reports of hail in several spots, including Hapeville in Fulton County and areas of Cherokee County.

10:27 p.m. – The FAA confirmed that the air traffic control tower at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport had to be evacuated Friday night due to strong winds.
“A few controllers remained in the facility to handle inbound aircraft,” The FAA said.
The tower is now back to normal operations.
9:42 p.m. – Ground stop at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is extended until 11 p.m.
9:36 p.m. – Flooding is causing problems along Interstate 75, where multiple lanes of the interstate are flooded near CW Grant Parkway, the main exit for the international concourse at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
9:22 p.m. – In Sandy Springs, Northside Drive between Davis Drive and Crest Valley Drive is closed because of trees down involving power lines. The city’s fire department is on scene, and Georgia Power has been notified.
9:05 p.m. – A ground stop was issued at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport until 10 p.m.
9:02 p.m. – Flash Flood Warning for Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton and Gwinnett County until 11:45pm Friday.
Flash Flood Warning for Bartow, Cherokee, Cobb, Fulton and Paulding County until 11:45 p.m. Friday.
9 p.m. – Flash Flood Warning for Cherokee, Forsyth, Fulton and Hall County until 11 p.m. Friday.
8:37 p.m. – Flash Flood Warning issued for Clayton, DeKalb and Fulton counties until 11:30 p.m. Friday.
Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for DeKalb, Henry and Rockdale counties until 9:15 p.m.
8:06 p.m. – Atlanta Police reports one person had to be helped out from a vehicle stuck in water at 124 Claire Drive SW in southwest Atlanta. Police responded at 7:07 p.m. to the disabled vehicle. No significant injuries were reported.
7:50 p.m. – Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for Clayton, Fayette and Fulton counties until 8:15 p.m.
7:48 p.m. – Flash Flood Warning for Bartow, Cherokee, Cobb, Fulton and Paulding counties until 10:45 p.m.
7:41 p.m. – Flash Flood Warning for Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton and Gwinnett counties until 10:45 p.m.
7:40 p.m. – In Cherokee County, there have been reports of nickel- to quarter-sized hail, including several reports around Holly Springs at around 5:50 p.m., according to Daniel Westbrook, emergency manager.
Wires are down at Breedlove Road near Amber Lake Drive at 6:29 p.m. Wires are also down at 3700 Holbrook Campground Road at 5:51 p.m.
7:35 p.m. – Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Clayton, DeKalb and Fulton counties until 8 p.m.
7:17 p.m. – Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Bartow, Cherokee and Cobb counties until 7:45 p.m.
7:11 p.m. – Severe Thunderstorm Warning for DeKalb, Fulton and Gwinnett counties until 7:45 p.m.
7:07 p.m. – Flash Flood Warning for Cherokee, Forsyth, Fulton and Hall counties until 10 p.m.
6:52 p.m. – Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Brad Nitz reports a severe thunderstorm has developed on the south side of Atlanta from Peoplestown to Lakewood Heights. It is nearly stationary, increasing the localized flood threat. Strong wind gusts may take down trees. Some hail is possible, too.
6:49 p.m. – Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Clayton, DeKalb and Fulton counties until 7:30 p.m.
