KERRVILLE, TEXAS – Cleanup is underway at a strip mall of Junction Highway in Kerrville after two feet of water tore through businesses. Stephen and Alton Flores own C & F Heating and Air. Their father started the business in 1954, and they’ve had this particular building since 1965. They have never seen water get to where it was last week.
“Never had water in the shop before at all,” says Flores. The Town Creek, which runs near the business, overflowing onto Junction Highway and into many local businesses that were not damaged during last year’s flooding.
“We probably lost $150,000 worth of equipment and tools out of our building, not counting the structure itself, but just…We had air conditioners and storage back there that were ready to go to the jobs, but they’re toast now,” says Flores. It’s a similar situation in Uvalde. Kathy Rice, Office Manager at Sanford Water Works off U.S. 90 also busy cleaning up her business after the floods.
“We’re aware that our front area floods, so we got our sandbags out, started putting those up. But the building next door to us, even with the sandbags, it just came up and over, and it came up and over more than it has, obviously, ever before,” says Rice. Both owners are focused on the future.
“Nothing we can do about it other than just take care of it and move forward,” says Rice.
“We’re just thankful for what God’s given us, and we’re going to keep going,” says Flores. The Flores Brothers are hoping to get this property back up and running in a few months.
