The Athletics had a tough game on Sunday afternoon, falling 12-6 to the Guardians in a game that saw both teams produce 15 hits. Zane Taylor took the loss on the mound after throwing for 1.1 innings and giving up six earned runs to drop to 1-1 in spring training play. Michael Stefanic led at the plate for the Athletics, going 3-for-3 while Colby Thomas and Austin Wynns each went 2-for-4. Thomas, Cade Marlowe and Leo De Vries each hit home runs in the loss to combine for four of the team’s six runs.
The Angels will look to keep momentum rolling as the team has now won four straight games after beating the Rockies in a narrow 6-5 victory on Sunday. The Rockies jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the Angels got on the board in the third with a balk. Jeimer Candelario followed with a two-run homer to right-center in the fifth to bring the team within one. In the bottom of the seventh, Zach Humphreys homered to left field to bring in two runs and take the lead. He struck again in the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off single to bring in Bryce Teodosio. The Angels improved to 13-12 and the win was credited to Samy Natera Jr. with two strikeouts in one inning.
The Angels and Athletics met last weekend and the A’s earned a 7-4 win. Prior to that, the Angels had picked up a 3-0 victory. The teams’ first meeting during spring training was a high-scoring affair that went in the Athletics’ favor with a 16-11 win.
