MANILA, Philippines — National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has placed the Luzon grid under yellow alert for several hours on Monday since 21 power plants are unavailable.

NGCP said a yellow alert is issued “when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.”

NGCP disclosed that 1,443.3 megawatts are unavailable in the region.

The grid operator explained, “four plants have been on forced outage since 2023, four between January and March 2024, and 13 since April 2024, while one other is running on a derated capacity.”
