Mailgun and SendGrid are very similar platforms that allow you to organize and send emails.
Free Trial
SendGrid offers a risk-free 30-day trial that doesn’t ask you for a credit card. Users can try the platform out before committing to a paid plan. Unlike Mailgun, SendGrid has a free plan that allows you to send up to 100 emails per day. This gives you access to the platform to see if you want to scale using its paid plans.
Starting Price
Mailgun’s starting price after the free trial is $35 per month (the Basic plan is $15 per month without the free trial). SendGrid offers a free email plan that allows you to send a limited number of emails per day. Many companies will outgrow this plan quickly and will need to upgrade to a higher tier.
Email Limit
Both providers limit the number of emails you can send in each plan. The Mailgun Basic plan allows up to 10,000 emails per month, and the tiers go up to 50,000 and 100,000 emails, respectively. SendGrid’s pricing is a little more complicated. It prices things based on the number of emails being sent. Its base plan limits it to 100 emails per day, while the tiered plans have a range for pricing. The more emails you want to send, the more expensive your plan will be.
Segmentation
Both Mailgun and SendGrid have email segmentation to help companies organize their email lists. Mailgun allows three tags per contact to segment the list. SendGrid also provides for the segmentation of lists through micro-segmentation techniques that increase conversion rates.
