A man suffered non-life-threatening wounds in a shooting Monday night in the Boston Common next to the water fountain. Officers were patrolling the area of Tremont and Winter streets just after 10 p.m. when they heard gunshots coming from inside the Boston Common, police said. The victim, who was not identified, was found inside the Boston Common suffering from gunshot wounds.Police then saw multiple people running, including Dana Loder, 30, of Lynnfield. Officials said he was clutching the front of his waistband with his hands. Loder threw a gun on the ground as he was trying to flee from police, officials said. He was taken into custody near 131 Tremont St. Loder was arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on charges that include carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID Card and possession of a Class B drug and held pending a dangerousness hearing. He was not charged in the shooting itself. Loder is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing next week. “When the defendant continued to run, officers followed him. During that chase, officers saw what appeared to be him tossing a firearm where they eventually recovered the firearm,” said prosecutor Chris Boutin.”The police report that I’ve been given does not state that there are any witnesses to this shooting, the police didn’t witness this shooting, only that they heard shots fired,” said defense attorney Carla Barrett. On Tuesday afternoon, Boston police said the wounds were not life-threatening and the victim was expected to survive.”The victim is still recovering at the hospital,” Boston Police Department Commissioner Michael Cox said. “The officers did a very good job responding quickly and hopefully apprehending the person who may have participated.”The case was originally being handled by the Boston Police Homicide Unit, but it was returned to district detectives Tuesday afternoon.Loder was arrested by Boston police in 2019 and charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license and carrying a firearm without a license, according to court documents. In October 2021, Loder is accused of firing a gun in downtown Lowell before leading police officers on a foot chase, during which Loder threw the gun over a fence, according to court documents. No one was injured in the incident and he was arrested.

BOSTON —

A man suffered non-life-threatening wounds in a shooting Monday night in the Boston Common next to the water fountain.

Officers were patrolling the area of Tremont and Winter streets just after 10 p.m. when they heard gunshots coming from inside the Boston Common, police said. The victim, who was not identified, was found inside the Boston Common suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police then saw multiple people running, including Dana Loder, 30, of Lynnfield.

During that chase, officers saw what appeared to be him tossing a firearm where they eventually recovered the firearm,” said prosecutor Chris Boutin.

“The police report that I’ve been given does not state that there are any witnesses to this shooting, the police didn’t witness this shooting, only that they heard shots fired,” said defense attorney Carla Barrett.

On Tuesday afternoon, Boston police said the wounds were not life-threatening and the victim was expected to survive.

“The victim is still recovering at the hospital,” Boston Police Department Commissioner Michael Cox said. “The officers did a very good job responding quickly and hopefully apprehending the person who may have participated.”

The case was originally being handled by the Boston Police Homicide Unit, but it was returned to district detectives Tuesday afternoon.

Loder was arrested by Boston police in 2019 and charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license and carrying a firearm without a license, according to court documents.

In October 2021, Loder is accused of firing a gun in downtown Lowell before leading police officers on a foot chase, during which Loder threw the gun over a fence, according to court documents. No one was injured in the incident and he was arrested.
