Max Holloway has been rumored as the ideal opponent for Conor McGregor when he makes his return to fighting with all signs pointing towards UFC 329 on July 11 as the ideal destination.

The card, which caps off the latest installment of International Fight Week, takes place the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas but no main event has been revealed yet. McGregor is plotting his return to action for the first time in five years after suffering a broken leg in his trilogy against Dustin Poirier back in 2021.

While nothing is official, Holloway admits that McGregor would be an ideal opponent for him for several reasons, not the least of which is avenging a past loss when they first met all the way back in in 2013.

“I mean we have history,” Holloway told Paramount about a potential rematch against McGregor. “We fought a very long time ago. I told you guys, if somebody’s got one over me, I want to get him back. I’d love to get him back. With him having all this talk of coming back and everybody talking about how serious he actually is. It looks like he’s training and taking it and really wanting to come back to fight. It’s exciting.

“He looks hungrier. He looks super hungry. He just did a boxing exhibition not too long ago so that was pretty cool to see him. I would just like to get one back. It’s a huge fight. It’s a big fight. Anything with Conor McGregor is huge but having history with the dude, being able to get one back would be cool. I’ve got to get my get backs on one of the guys. If I can keep knocking down the list, that would be great.”

Of course, Holloway also has something to prove after a disappointing outing in his most recent fight when he dropped a lopsided decision to Charles Oliveira, which cost him the “BMF” title as well.

Holloway has been anxious to wash the bad taste out of his mouth from that fight and he couldn’t imagine a better opponent than McGregor for an opponent.

But as of now, Holloway says he hasn’t received a formal contract from the UFC to book him on the July card, although he’s obviously willing and waiting for that to happen.

“Maybe, we’ll see what happens,” Holloway said about fighting at UFC 329. “I’m seeing all the talk that you guys see. I really didn’t hear anything yet but that wouldn’t be a bad time.

“You’re only as good as your last fight they say, and we’re going to get everybody forgetting about that last fight as soon as possible.”
