The Metroplex Civic & Business Association (MCBA) has added Dallas developer and banking executive Scott Beck to its Board of Directors as the organization expands its leadership bench and works to deepen its civic and business role across Dallas-Fort Worth.

Beck is chairman and CEO of UTB Financial Holdings, Inc., the parent company of United Texas Bank, and CEO and president of Beck Ventures, Inc.

“We are thrilled to welcome Scott Beck to the MCBA board,” said Amish Gupta, MCBA board chair. “Scott has been a longtime MCBA member and now is the perfect time to bring his business acumen and track record of shaping the Metroplex into an official leadership role within MCBA. His vision and values will be a tremendous asset to this board, our members, and the communities we serve.”

A Dallas Development Voice

Beck is tied to one of Dallas’ most closely watched redevelopment efforts: the former Valley View Mall site selected by the Dallas Mavericks for the team’s proposed new arena and entertainment district.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express in “Mavericks Select Valley View For Arena Vision, Beck Says It Could Unite Dallas,” Beck said the Valley View project could become the northern anchor of a broader redevelopment vision connecting North and South Dallas.

Beck has decades of experience in real estate development, banking, and civic leadership. His work has included Trophy Club, a 3,500-acre mixed-use master-planned community, the establishment of a $432.5 million tax increment financing district, and the Valley View site, according to MCBA.

“MCBA’s focus on building a thriving business community in DFW through civic engagement aligns with the mission I’ve dedicated my career to,” Beck said. “I look forward to working alongside this group of leaders to strengthen the connections between the business community and the city we all call home.”

Strum Takes The Helm

Beck’s appointment comes as MCBA expands its leadership structure under CEO Julie Strum.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, MCBA recently elevated Strum from chief operating officer to chief executive officer.

MCBA also hosted a private gathering with Strum and the organization’s Leadership Council. The event allowed Leadership Council members to hear Strum outline her priorities as CEO while exchanging civic, business, and leadership insights with other Dallas-area leaders over more than two hours.

The gathering was part of MCBA’s broader effort to strengthen ties among its board, Leadership Council, and member network as the organization looks to push its civic engagement mission forward across DFW.

MCBA’s Next Phase

Beck’s appointment is part of a broader strategy that gives the Board of Directors and Leadership Council expanded roles in relationship-building and external positioning, according to MCBA.

The organization said the strategy will better align its board-level leadership with Strum’s executive leadership as MCBA continues to grow.

MCBA describes itself as a nonpartisan, nonprofit business league made up of DFW CEOs focused on civic engagement, local elections, charitable service, and building a stronger business community.
