The Melbourne Market Authority (MMA) Board has announced the appointment of Matt Elliott as its next CEO.

Elliott will join the MMA from his current role as CEO of Queen Victoria Market and will commence on 27 January 2027.

He previously worked with the MMA as commercial & business development manager from 2014 to 2019 and has a strong understanding of the market, the fresh produce industry and the people and businesses that operate within it.

Elliott brings extensive experience across market operations, commercial development, customer experience, major projects and stakeholder engagement. His appointment follows a robust recruitment process and a strong shortlist of candidates.

MMA chair Angie Bradbury said Elliott was the stand-out candidate and the board was delighted to welcome him back to the organisation.

“Matt brings a rare combination of market knowledge, commercial experience and leadership, and we are thrilled to welcome him back to the MMA,” Bradbury said.

“He knows the Melbourne Market, he knows the industry and, importantly, he understands the people and businesses that make this market what it is.

“The Melbourne Market plays an incredibly important role in Victoria’s fresh produce supply chain, and the board is confident Matt is the right person to lead the MMA into its next chapter.”

Elliott said returning to the Melbourne Market was an opportunity he was genuinely excited about.

“The Melbourne Market has always been a special place for me, and I’m incredibly pleased to be returning,” Elliott said.

“I already know many of the people and businesses across the Market and have enormous respect for the role they play in supplying fresh produce and flowers to Victorians every day.

“Much has changed since I was last at the MMA, and I’m looking forward to reconnecting with the market community, listening to what matters to them and working with the board, the MMA team and industry to build on the Market’s strengths and opportunities for the future.”

Elliott will remain with Queen Victoria Market until 24 December 2026, seeing out his four-year contract, supporting the market through the busy pre-Christmas trading period and leading an orderly handover.

Current Interim CEO Keith Louie will remain in the role until Elliott commences in January, after which he will resume his position as an MMA Board Director.

“Keith has provided strong, steady leadership during an important period of change for the MMA,” Bradbury said.

“On behalf of the board, I thank him for the commitment he has shown to the organisation, our staff and the broader market community. We look forward to continuing to benefit from his knowledge and experience when he returns to the board.”
