MEMPHIS, Tenn. – As the Latino community works to navigate new mass deportation efforts, a new nonprofit is working to provide more support and resources to them in the Mid-South.
It hosts classes and workshops to help entrepreneurs and others with running their business, immigration and more.
The nonprofit is Amigo Community Center of the Mid-South. Organizers created it in April to help the Latino community in Memphis. Founder Angela Trillo said it’s all about being a bridge to education and other opportunities.
They host classes and workshops focusing on six pillars: immigration, housing, entrepreneurship, wellness and health education and jobs. Last year, Trillo said the group helped 600 Latinos in the area with one of those pillars, whether that was starting a business, finding a job, getting help with their immigration status or finding an affordable home.
This weekend the group is hosting a bilingual job fair open to anyone, not just Latinos. It’ll be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Mosaic Church, located at 815 N. McLean Blvd #343 in Memphis.
The event will offer help on improving your resume and interview skills.
