Men’s Cross Country Wins DeSales Invitational

Center Valley, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s cross-country team, led by a fourth-place finish by Jacob Nolan, won the DeSales University Invitational on Saturday.
 
The Ducks collected 48 team points, edging host and Middle Atlantic Conference rival DeSales by two points, while the Penn State Club XC team was third, as Penn State Berks was fifth with 150 points.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jacob Nolan led the way with a fourth-place finish in 26:29.10, while Danny Jutras followed close behind in eighth at 26:39.40, and Caleb Stephen took 13th in 26:53.20. 
 
Mick Barbi (15th, 27:00.20) and Ryan Paradine (16th, 27:01.30) rounded out the scoring five, all finishing within 32 seconds of Nolan to secure the team title.
 
Joseph Ruben (22nd, 27:23.80) and Max Thorn (24th, 27:28.60) were the team’s sixth and seventh finishers, while Ryan Shibles (25th, 27:34.10) and Dylan Barrett (30th, 27:42.10) also landed inside the top 30. Markus Soennichsen (33rd, 27:57.50) and Matt Hodorowski (37th, 28:08.20) each cracked the top 40, with William Parker (41st, 28:31.60) right behind.
 
Also competing for the Ducks were James Adamo (47th, 28:59.70), Cillian Griffin (47th, 28:59.70), Divyesh Narravula (49th, 29:03.40), Enrico Parrella (56th, 29:29.50), Nelson VanMaaren (59th, 29:50.50), Ryan Kropac (60th, 29:50.80), and Christopher Reyes (63rd, 29:57.00). Colin Fisher (82nd, 31:51.50) and Christian Garofano (85th, 32:00.00) rounded out the lineup.
 
INSIDE THE MEET

  • Though neither set PRs, Nolan and Stephen both finished within 10 seconds of their top collegiate marks
  • Paradine shaved nearly four seconds off his previous 8K PR
  • Thorn, running his second collegiate 8K, shaved 38 seconds off his time from the Lock Haven Invitational two weeks ago
  • Hodorowski clocked a season-best time, just four seconds off his PR
  • Parker dropped more than a minute off his PR and Narravula knocked 16 seconds off his
  • Kropac ran under 30 minutes for the first time as a Duck

UP NEXT
The Ducks return to competition next Saturday, competing in the Border Battle, hosted by Rowan University. The Championship Race gets underway at 11:45 am, with the Open Race at 1:15 pm.
