Meta Lab planning first Texas store in Houston’s Galleria

Meta Lab locations allow shoppers to try on its AI glasses, Meta Neural Band and virtual reality headsets.

HOUSTON — Menlo, California-based Meta Platforms Inc. (Nasdaq: META) is preparing to open Texas’ first Meta Lab location in Houston’s Galleria mall, following in the footsteps of fellow tech giant Google.

Meta Platforms — the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp — has been making moves to expand its brick-and-mortar retail footprint in recent years. Meta Lab locations allow visitors to try on its AI glasses, priced from $299 to $799, and virtual reality headsets, priced from $299 to $499.

With models made by Ray-Ban and Oakley, Meta’s AI glasses allow users to take photos and videos, listen to audio, make calls and interact hands-free via voice commands or subtle controls.

Meta Lab locations also allow visitors to experience the Meta Ray-Ban display and to try out the Meta Neural Band, a wrist-worn device that uses electromyography (EMG) to convert electrical nerve signals into digital commands, allowing for low-effort gesture control of Meta Ray-Ban glasses.
