Five-time NBA champ Ron Harper talks about seeing Miami University

Former NBA star and Miami University basketball great Ron Harper spoke with the media Jan. 31, 2026, about driving into town and seeing the campus.

The 22-0 Miami University RedHawks are ranked No. 23 in the latest AP Top 25 men’s college basketball poll released Feb. 2, up from 24th last week.

The RedHawks received 170 votes in the new poll. MU defeated Northern Illinois, 85-61, on Jan. 31, and earned an 86-84 win Jan. 27 against UMass.

MU is one of two undefeated Div. I men’s basketball teams in the country, along with No. 1 Arizona. The Wildcats cruised past the Arizona State Sun Devils, 87-74, to improve to 22-0.

The RedHawks are 10-0 in Mid-American Conference play this season. They are scheduled to play next at Buffalo on Feb. 3 at 6:30 p.m. Eastern on ESPN+.

Last week, Reds play-by-play announcer John Sadak said the RedHawks are “such a fun story this season.”

During the Jan. 30 broadcast of Akron’s win against Kent State, CBS Sports college basketball analyst and former Xavier Musketeers head coach Pete Gillen said the RedHawks’ NET strength of schedule, which ranks 350th among Div. I teams, “is gonna really hurt them.”

Two weeks ago, the RedHawks were ranked among the poll’s top 25 teams for the first time since the 1998-99 season.
