Billionaire Citadel founder Ken Griffin is bullish on the future of Miami.
“Miami is unequivocally one of the great up-and-coming cities, not just in Florida, not just in America, but in the world,” Griffin said in an interview published today.
“This is one of the most fun places you can possibly imagine living in,” he added. “What’s wonderful about being in Miami is you go to dinner, and you talk about the future. The optimism here is infectious.”
Citadel now has hundreds of employees in Miami, including senior leadership.
Of the people who Citadel has brought to Miami, “no one has asked to go anywhere else,” Griffin said.
Asked about problems such as high cost of living and lack of schools, Griffin noted that those are issues that come with being in a high-growth area, saying it beats the alternative of being a decaying city.
Griffin also said that the new supertall headquarters tower he is building in Brickell will be “one of the greatest office buildings built in the world.” It will also house private equity and law firms in addition to Citadel.
