ORLANDO, Fla. — Another Michigan quarterback is planning to depart.
Davis Warren, a former Leukemia survivor turned walk-on for the Wolverines who rose to starter status in 2024, plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, he confirmed to MLive/ The Ann Arbor News on Monday.
The news was first reported by ESPN. Warren, who has one season of college eligibility left, could pursue a medical redshirt for a second year.
Warren was sidelined for much of the 2025 season while rehabbing from a torn ACL and meniscus suffered in last year’s ReliaQuest Bowl win over Alabama. While he has not played in a game this season, he recently sat down with MLive to discuss the injury and his comeback.
The injury came after a tumultuous year in 2024 that saw Warren emerge as the starter, relinquish the job to Alex Orji and re-win the job the rest of the way. He would start nine games during the 8-5 season, throwing for 1,199 yards and seven touchdowns and nine interceptions.
Still, Warren quarterbacked Michigan to victories rivals Michigan State, Ohio State and Alabama, helping cap a strong finish to 2024.
A Manhattan Beach, Calif., native, Warren walked on at Michigan in 2021 after a fight with Leukemia limited his action in high school. He rose up the depth chart during Michigan’s Big Ten championship runs of 2022 and ‘23, appearing in three games during the run to a national championship.
Warren is the second Michigan quarterback to declare plans to enter the transfer portal this cycle, which runs Jan. 2-16, joining sophomore Jadyn Davis.
Two other players, reserve offensive lineman Connor Jones and reserve receiver Fred Moore, have also signaled plans to enter the portal.
More departures could be on the way, too, with the arrival of Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham. He will continue to meet with players down here in Florida before taking over the program later this week.
