MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) -A fun day filled with tradition for the Midland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
They hosted their 38th annual family Mex-Tex at the Midland Horseshoe Arena today.
The Mex-Tex is a cultural heritage that they celebrate every year in Midland.
The event had plenty of activities for families to enjoy.
The Mex-Tex is a family event that has been around for 38 years.
This is to promote the Hispanic heritage in Midland.
We try to keep the culture going. This year, we introduced the Hispanic artist showcase and the Hispanic talent show. We’re just trying to keep our culture alive,” said Savannah Morales, President & CEO of the Midland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
The Mex-Tex is the largest fundraiser event of the year for the Midland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
All the proceeds will go towards the chamber for their projects and workshops.
“It opens for the community because we put that money towards the workshop. We do business expos with it and women’s conferences. We turn to try to make sure that money is used for the good use for the community,” said Savannah Morales.
A variety of vendors from West Texas were at the Mex-Tex event selling their homemade products.
This event serves as an opportunity to promote tourism and revenue in the community.
“So, when we do this event, it brings revenue into our community because they stay and shop in our hotel and eat at the restaurant. That’s the ultimate goal to bring in people as well,” said Savannah Morales.
As the Mex-Tex is getting closer to hitting the forty-year mark, the organizers are already working on celebrating the 40th anniversary.
“Just like our 40th anniversary gala. It was beautiful. We want to make sure we do the same thing with family, Mex-Tex. We are hoping we can do something big to celebrate our 40th anniversary. We couldn’t celebrate this without our community, who came out to support this event,” said Savannah Morales.
