MISSOURI CITY, Texas (KTRK) — A Missouri City business owner said missing merchandise on Saturday caused her to take a closer look at her surveillance video.

Dr. Imrana Momin, optometrist and owner of Optiqueye, said when she played back the tapes, she noticed a man stealing from her shop.

“Those four pairs were over $3,500,” Momin said.

Momin told ABC13 it only took the sunglass stealer 15 minutes to swipe them.

“All my hard work was taken, I worked all day that day, and the amount that he stole was as much as we made that day,” Momin said.

She said it wasn’t until the end of a busy day, meeting with patients, that they noticed merchandise was missing.

“Finally, I was sitting down to drink my water and I heard my staff go we’re missing a Cartier and I was like no, everybody was here today with my previous patient, they’re here somewhere and then one goes we’re missing two Dita’s and that’s when I knew things were gone, they were gone forsure,” Momin said.

Momin said she quickly filed a report with the Missouri City Police Department, but it was when she posted on social media in an optometrist group that she learned she wasn’t alone.

“I posted on there and then other doctors started commenting like oh yea he did that to my office too and one of the offices that he hit, I used to work for them as a front desk when I was in college so I reached out to that doctor and she’s like yea he took two frames from me and then she told me about how he was hitting another antique shop right next to her office and he’s been doing it,” Momin said.

While she waits for detectives to continue their investigation, Momin said they will continue to ensure all customers and patients present ID so this doesn’t happen again.

“We let our guards down,” Momin said.

ABC13 reached out to the Missouri City PD about the investigation but has not yet heard back. Meanwhile, another business owner sent ABC13 surveillance photos of the same suspect at their eyeglass shop.
