Ahead of the 2025 MLB Tokyo Series next month between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs, fans got a first look at special limited edition jerseys for both teams.
On Thursday, MLB revealed the Takashi Murakami x MLB Tokyo Series collection presented by Complex, which is set to launch on March 7 before the Tokyo Series on March 18-19:
Per MLB.com, Murakami is a world-renowned artist known for his “vibrant colors and playful motifs.” The collection celebrates the cultural connection from Japan’s embrace of America’s favorite past time.
“I think this new collection builds upon the historical friendship between Japan and the United States,” Murakami said. “I feel lucky to be able to work alongside Complex, MLB and highlight Shohei Ohtani, an outstanding athlete who has emerged from Japan and made a name for himself on the global stage. This is something I am overwhelmed with gratitude to be a part of.”
In addition to the limited edition Dodgers and Cubs jerseys, the collection will feature products from Fanatics, including Nike MLB t-shirts and hoodies. Special jerseys with Murakami’s floral artwork will be available for Dodgers players Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman and Cubs players Shota Imanaga, Seiya Suzuki, and Dansby Swanson.
The 2025 Tokyo Series will be a homecoming for Ohtani, Yamamoto, Imanaga and Suzuki, and they will now bring an iconic new look to the field when they play at the Tokyo Dome next month.
