On Sunday, May 3, downtown Mount Vernon will shut down to make way for the annual Mariachi and Folklórico Cinco de Mayo Parade.
MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — A portion of downtown Mount Vernon will transform into a celebration of Mexican culture on Sunday, May 3.
In 2024, students in the Mount Vernon School District put together the first parade event, according to Ramon Rivera, the director of the MVHS Mariachi and Folklórico program.
Rivera said the event will celebrate several Latinx and Hispanic cultures.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
It was created out of inspiration from the Las Patrias parade and celebration in Seattle and South Park that happens every September in honor of the start of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Attendees can expect the parade to feature dancers, band performances, horses, low riders, and more.
Rivera said he is grateful to the Mount Vernon School District for “believing in arts education” and making it possible for students in this program to have access to instruments and proper dress and shoes to learn traditional dance.
