The talented Brazilian was the more effective of the two in the opening rounds, landing the better shots throughout and doing well to deny Muhammad’s attempts to wrestle. As the fight progressed, Bonfim continued to have more consistent success, busting up the ex-titleholder with his precision striking and pushing back immediately whenever Muhammad began to have any positive moments of his own.
While they went the distance, the outcome was never in question, as Bonfim earned a clean sweep of the scorecards to run his winning streak to five and make his place for a spot in the Top 5. This was an outstanding effort from the 28-year-old rising star, who moved to 20-1 overall with the biggest victory of his career.
