Adam Silver and the rest of the league’s leadership remain committed to NBA Europe’s target of launching in October 2027 despite the growing doubts surrounding the project.
Significant doubts have emerged over the NBA’s targeted launch of NBA Europe. However, Adam Silver, Mark Tatum, and the league’s leadership remain committed to launching the project next year as originally planned.
A league spokesperson told NBA insider Marc Stein that the NBA Europe project continues to “target a rollout beginning in October 2027.”
“Throughout my travels in recent weeks, I’ve heard pointed skepticism from various stakeholders in the game abroad questioning whether the NBA is going to be able to launch its new NBA Europe venture next season as Silver and deputy commissioner Mark Tatum have long hoped,” Stein reported in his latest article.
“The league office, however, staunchly dismissed such suggestions when asked directly on Monday.”

As such, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is poised to address NBA Europe along with other pressing league matters in his Tuesday news conference.
According to Stein, Silver should expect questions about the growing questions surrounding NBA Europe, including whether the league can still meet its targeted 12-team league or whether a potential merger with EuroLeague might happen.
The proposed NBA Europe league will launch with 16 total teams, which includes 12 permanent franchises and 4 annual qualifiers.
Major European cities like Paris, Berlin, Munich, Barcelona, Madrid, Milan, Rome, London, and Manchester are being eyed by the NBA for the program.
