Free agent former L.A. Clippers guard Ben Simmons remains a man without a team, even as the NBA offseason stretches into its third month.

Per Stefan Bondy of The New York Post, Simmons doesn’t even know “if he wants to continue” his NBA career.

In another ominous development for his future, Simmons’ longtime agent Bernie Lee has ended their partnership.

As Ben Simmons decides his next career steps, I’m told Bernie Lee has notified @TheNBPA that he has formally removed himself from the union’s ledger as Simmons’ agent.

A front office executive has informed Sam Amico of Hoops Wire that the 6-foot-10 vet’s run in this league is cooked, after just nine seasons (but seven healthy season).

“I think his NBA career is over,” the executive told Amico. “That’s not meant to disparage Ben. I think he can still play and probably help someone. But there are just too many things working against him right now. I know we would not have an interest in signing him.”

Simmons negotiated a buyout with the Nets midway through the 2024-25 season, and inked a deal with the Clippers to close out the year. He played a more minimal role for a 50-32 team than he ever had before. In 16.4 minutes a night, Simmons averaged 2.9 points on 43.4 percent shooting from the floor and 85.7 percent shooting from the charity stripe, 3.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 0.7 steals per.

He was squeezed out of head coach Tyronn Lue’s rotation in the playoffs, averaging just 8.4 minutes of mostly garbage time in five of seven contests.

Several rival scouts had previously informed Amico that other teams weren’t particularly open to bringing Simmons aboard.

“I don’t think there’s any real interest in him beyond teams putting out some feelers,” a scout told Amico. “So if he does retire, he can spin it as if it’s being done by choice. But I think teams are probably going to make that decision for him.”

A three-time All-Star, one-time All-NBA Teamer, and two-time All-Defensive First Teamer while in his prime with the Philadelphia 76ers,

“He could still offer defense, ballhandling and decent reserve guard play to a contender,” the scout added. “But it would have to be the right situation and he’d need to understand he may not play more than 10 minutes some nights.”

Amico reports that the New York Knicks, Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors have all at various points been connected to Simmons as potential destinations this offseason.

The 29-year-old Aussie could also always continue his career in the NBL, likely for a lucrative paycheck.
