COLUMBUS, Ohio (WOIO/Gray News) – The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled against NBA player Christian Wood in a child support case.

In a unanimous decision announced this week, the state’s top court found Wood must pay $25,000 a month in child support after missing an objection deadline.

According to court records, Wood had a child in January 2021 with an Elyria woman he met on social media.

He was playing for the Dallas Mavericks at that time and, most recently, the Los Angeles Lakers before being sidelined with a reported foot injury.

In July 2021, records stated that Wood and the woman went to a Lorain County court over child support and visitation, resulting in an interim child support order for $5,000.

The parents went to trial in 2023, and Wood was issued a $25,000 monthly child support payment, backdated to January 2021, according to the records.

Wood filed an objection 15 days after receiving the order, and it was the date of that filing that landed the case in the Ohio Supreme Court.

The justices on Wednesday found Wood missed the deadline by one day to object.
