Washington, DC, Oct. 2, 2026 – From acquiring and selling aircraft to restructuring a flight operation, seemingly routine business decisions often carry significant financial and regulatory consequences. The 2026 National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Tax, Regulatory & Risk Management Conference will bring together leading experts to help attendees understand those risks, manage organizational change and make informed decisions with confidence.
Designed for attorneys, CPAs, financial advisors, CFOs and flight operations professionals, the conference takes place Oct. 18-19 at Encore Las Vegas, prior to the opening of the NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE), taking place Oct. 20-22.
The two-day event will pair timely updates on the most consequential tax and regulatory issues in business aviation with practical, scenario-based sessions focused on applying that knowledge to real-world situations. Nearly 300 people have already signed up for this essential conference.
“Business aviation transactions and operations require careful attention as regulations, tax policies and industry practices evolve,” said NBAA General Counsel and Corporate Secretary Benjamin Schwalen. “Attendees of the 2026 NBAA Tax, Regulatory & Risk Management Conference will have access to the industry’s most knowledgeable professionals, along with new perspectives on longstanding challenges and practical guidance they can put to work within their own organizations.”
Opening day sessions will address foundational issues for business aviation professionals that often involve critically important details and nuances. Presentations will cover Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulatory fundamentals, personal use of aircraft, Standard Industry Fare Level (SIFL) reporting, depreciation, related-party transactions, federal excise tax for Part 91 operations and international transactions and customs.
The second day will shift toward practical applications, including a session addressing the tax, regulatory and operational considerations of fractional ownership and jet card programs. Other sessions will examine state tax hotspots, know-your-customer requirements and data security and current insurance and aircraft-finance market conditions.
A dedicated session will explore the steps organizations should consider when purchasing or selling an aircraft, adding a new aircraft to a flight operation or undergoing a change in company ownership. The conference will conclude with a panel discussion featuring candid accounts of aircraft transactions and other arrangements that didn’t go according to plan.
“Sometimes the most valuable lessons come from examining what went wrong,” Schwalen said. “These practical sessions will help attendees recognize common pitfalls, maintain better records and prepare for changes before they create unexpected tax, regulatory or financial exposure.”
Registration for the conference includes complimentary admission to NBAA-BACE, enabling attendees to build upon their experience by connecting with experts, service providers and other professionals from across the business aviation community. View the program and register today.
