It is not the quarterback news New York Giants fans have been waiting for, but the Giants did make a move in free agency on Friday. The Giants agreed to terms with special teamer/reserve linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles in news first reported by Mike Garafolo.
Flannigan-Fowles, 28, spent five seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. He is a 6-foot-2, 223-pound linebacker/slot cornerback who is known more for his special teams play than his defense. Flannigan-Fowles has played 616 defensive snaps in his career, never more than 163 in a season. He has played 1,284 special teams snaps. In 73 career regular season games, he has seven starts on defense.
Flannigan-Fowles is the second reserve linebacker/special teamer added by the Giants this week. The other was Chris Board, signed as a free agent from the Baltimore Ravens.
The Giants Ty Summers and Matthew Adams as backup linebackers/special teamers, but both are currently free agents.
