Giants drop Jets, 23-6, to wrap 2026 preseason
The New York Giants closed the preseason with a 23-6 win over the New York Jets on Friday night at MetLife Stadium, where the Jets served as the home team. The result gave John Harbaugh’s club a 2-1 exhibition record heading into Sunday’s roster cuts and the Sept. 13 opener against the Dallas Cowboys.
New York trailed 6-0 after Chip Trayanum’s one-yard touchdown run and a missed extra point. Tyrone Tracy Jr. answered with a six-yard score and finished with four carries for 37 yards before leaving for a concussion evaluation. He was cleared.
Jameis Winston started and went 4-of-9 for 54 yards with an interception. Brandon Allen added 8-of-12 for 78 yards. Jake Haener finished the night with a 37-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Gipson. Odell Beckham Jr. led the receivers with three catches for 53 yards. Najee Harris carried 11 times for 39 yards, while Eric Gray added nine carries for 30.
Rookie kicker Dominic Zvada was perfect, connecting from 23, 53 and 46 yards and converting both extra points. The Giants piled up 142 rushing yards on 32 carries and held a clear edge in time of possession as most starters sat or played limited snaps.
Zvada’s night strengthened his hold on the kicking job before the 53-man roster is set.

Jets kicker Jason Sanders, who spent time with the Giants this offseason, attempted to match Dominic Zvada with a 54-yard field goal but came up well short with just under 8:00 remaining.
In the game replacing Brandon Allen, Jake Haener had his first big Giants moment with a 37-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Xavier Gipson, capping off a four-play, 61-yard drive.

Cornerback Art Green was injured on a kickoff early in the fourth quarter and was taken into the blue tent for evaluation.
The Giants opened the fourth quarter with a 46-yard Dominic Zvada field goal to cap off a 10-play, 54-yard drive.
It certainly looks like Zvada has won the kicking job.

Kicker Dominic Zvada showed off his powerful leg midway through the third quarter, connecting on a 53-yard field goal to cap off a 13-play, 51-yard drive.

Running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. was evaluated for a concussion and cleared. He returned to the sideline, where a trainer continued to check on his neck.
The Giants lead the Jets, 10-6, entering halftime. Gang Green will receive the ball to start the third quarter.
The Giants had an impressive drive going late in the second quarter, but couldn’t get the ball into the end zone. A Braxton Berrios drop at the goal line and a missed fade left kicker Dominic Zvada to clean things up with a 23-yard field goal.
Giants 10, Jets 6
Running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. suffered what appeared to be a head/neck injury on an eight-yard run midway through the second quarter. He remained on the turf through a commercial break while being examined by trainers.
Head coach John Harbaugh rushed onto the field to get an update as offensive teammates knelt around him.
After an extended period, Tracy finally got up and walked off the field under his own power, albeit somewhat wobbly.
Linebacker Zaire Barnes, who is in a battle with Darius Muasau for a roster spot, stated his case with a leaping interception on a Cade Klubnik pass.
Backup center Lucas Patrick was on the sideline toward the end of the first quarter, having trainers look at his hand/wrist. It does not appear to be a major issue.
After two rough weeks to start the preseason, running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. steadied his feet and found his redemption with seconds remaining in the first quarter.
Tracy capped off a four-play, 48-yard drive with a six-yard touchdown plunge after an earlier 16-yard run. Odell Beckham Jr. also chipped in with a key 23-yard catch.
Giants 7, Jets 6
With the ball back, the Giants were riding the shoulders of running backs Najee Harris and Tyrone Tracy. With the help of a key Odell Beckham Jr. first down, the offense pushed their way deep into Jets territory when Jameis Winston hit Braxton Berrios with a pass over the middle.
Berrios pushed toward the goal line but got his pocket picked, and the Jets recovered his fumble in the end zone for a touchback. Not ideal for a player fighting for a roster spot.
After their defense recorded a takeaway, the Jets offense drove 36 yards on 10 plays (all runs), capping the drive off with a one-yard Chip Trayanum touchdown run. However, Jason Sanders missed the point-after attempt.
Jets 6, Giants 0
An ugly opening series ended disastrously as quarterback Jameis Winston unleashed a throw to wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who slipped at the top of his route. The ball, which appeared to be tipped at the line, appeared to bounce off OBJ’s hands and into the waiting arms of a Jets defender.
The Giants won the opening coin toss and have elected to receive. The Jets will get the ball to start the second half.
Gameday captains: Jon Runyan Jr., Tyler Nubin and Zaire Barnes.
After a last-second change led offensive coordinator Matt Nagy to call plays from the booth last week, he will work from the sideline against the Jets.
