NEW YORK (WABC) — New York Gov. Kathy Hochul says she is spending $6 million of state funds on a shuttle bus service to FIFA World Cup matches, slashing the $80 round-trip bus fare to $20.

“Getting to the World Cup should be as accessible as possible,” Gov. Hochul posted to X. “Because New Yorkers are helping host the world, 20% of those tickets will be reserved exclusively for New Yorkers. Game on!”

Thousands of people are expected to bus in for matches.

Hochul plans to use yellow school buses to increase the bus fleet.

There will be 18,000 bus seats available on non-school days, and 12,000 seats available on school days.

This comes just after New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill’s announcement that NJ Transit train tickets would be reduced to $98, down from the previously set $150.

Sherrill says that the price has dropped “without New Jersey taxpayer money,” thanking partners such as DoorDash, Audible, FanDuel, DraftKings, PSE&G, South Jersey Industries and American Water for helping to allow for the price decrease.

As for cheaper bus tickets, the New York New Jersey Host Committee reduced fare tickets will be updated Wednesday morning on their website.

Those who already bought a $80 ticket will be offered a refund for the price difference.

Hopefully the reduced fare will help fans who are looking to save — many have spent thousands for the chance to watch their favorite team play.

Right now, the cheapest match ticket on Ticketmaster’s site is $2,300.
