Monroe, NY (WRGB) — A head-on crash on Lakes Road in the town of Monroe left one driver dead and another critically injured Saturday evening, prompting an ongoing New York State Police investigation.
Troopers from the Monroe barracks responded to a crash at about 7:14 p.m. May 23, 2026, on Lakes Road. A preliminary investigation found that a 2019 Toyota was driving southwest crossed the center line into the northeast lane and hit a 2025 Subaru head-on as it traveled northeast.
The Subaru’s driver, 43-year-old Daryl Baker of Monroe, was found dead inside the vehicle.
The Toyota’s driver, 61-year-old Robert Molina of Monroe, was given lifesaving measures at the scene and taken to Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown in critical condition.
New York State Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
