New Jersey City University (NJCU) has been selected as a 2025 Angeles Higher Education Impact Award honoree by Angeles Investors, the nation’s largest group of Hispanic and Latinx angel investors and entrepreneurs.
The award will be presented during the 2025 Q3 Summit & Awards Event on Aug. 22 in Chicago, during the “Higher Education as the Engine for the AI Economy Session.”
NJCU President Andrés Acebo will serve on a panel discussing best practices on funding, student recruitment, attracting Fortune 500 employers, and other critical areas of institutional advancement. The recognition ceremony will be followed by an awards dinner.
“We are deeply honored to receive this recognition, which reflects NJCU’s commitment to giving young entrepreneurs the tools they need to change their future,” said President Acebo. “As a nationally ranked leader in social mobility, NJCU continues to positively impact the communities and economies of Jersey City, Hudson County, and beyond through our indispensable mission of educational access. Through our academic opportunities and strategic community partnerships, we serve as a model for how Hispanic-serving institutions can create pathways to entrepreneurship and economic empowerment. This award represents a powerful example of how mission-driven and community-anchored institutions of higher learning can empower people and make a lasting impact.”
The Angeles Higher Education Impact Award recognizes institutions and individuals in higher education who demonstrate exceptional leadership, innovation, and support for entrepreneurs — specifically exemplify Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) and their contributions to enabling more Hispanic startups and growing the startup ecosystem.
The award is given to institutions that demonstrate significant and intentional support for initiatives through sustained effort or backing of major projects, recognizing achievements in educational programs, administrative practices, workplace culture, community impact, regional economic development, or research.
A key aspect of the award focuses on showcasing innovative and systematic practices that lead to measurable outcomes in advancing academic success, understanding, or quality of life for diverse populations.
As New Jersey’s oldest public four-year minority and Hispanic-serving institution, NJCU has consistently championed educational access and opportunity for underrepresented communities. The university’s recognition by Angeles Investors underscores its commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and innovation among Hispanic and Latinx students and community members.
Angeles Investors provides HSI awards to find, fund, and grow the most promising Hispanic and Latinx ventures, supporting the development of diverse entrepreneurial talent across the nation.
