No. 13 Field Hockey Punches Ticket To Host Susquehanna in NCAA First Round

Lynchburg, Va. — The University of Lynchburg field hockey squad was selected to host the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament against Susquehanna on Wednesday, November 13 at 2 p.m.

The No. 13 Hornets return to the NCAA tournament for the second straight season and the 21st occasion in program history. Last season, Lynchburg advanced to the quarterfinals following a 1-0 victory against No. 9 York. The Hornets fell to No. 14 Kean with a 2-1 final in the quarterfinals. 

Earlier this year, Lynchburg traveled to Selinsgrove, Pa. to square up against Susquehanna on Septmeber 29 and took down the River Hawks, 3-1. Senior Madison Mark, freshman Jill Pleiter, and sophomore Tatum Humphries each bagged a goal in the affair. Senior Olivia van Metre assisted on two of the three goals. 

Lynchburg owns a 15-4 overall record heading into the national tournament. Last time out, the Hornets dropped the ODAC Championship to No. 9 Shenandoah, 4-1. Lynchburg had three team members named to the ODAC All-Tournament team following the competition: Madison Mark, and sophomores Khanyisile Mzizi and Shay Schoones. 

In 2024, the Hornets have 11 performers with four or more goals throughout the season. Leading the way are freshmen Grace Peterson and Pleiter with nine apiece. Freshman Maddie Schuchter and sophomore Allie Freeman are atop the team standings in assists with six and five, respectively.
