The Denver Broncos will not place a tender on restricted free agent Lucas Krull, according to a report from the Denver Gazette‘s Chris Tomasson. Denver will now allow Krull to become an unrestricted free agent next week.
The lowest RFA tender is worth $3.547 million, so it’s no surprise that the Broncos did not want to bring him back at that price. It’s possible that Denver might attempt to re-sign the tight end back for less than the cost of the tender.
Krull (6-6, 260 pounds) spent the last three seasons with the Broncos, totaling 29 receptions for 262 yards and one touchdown in 23 games. He appeared in three games last season.
Elsewhere on the RFA front, Denver’s also not expected to place a tender on defensive lineman Matt Henningsen, according to Tomasson, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent. It’s unclear what the team will do with tight end/fullback Nate Adkins, who has not yet received a tender or extension.
The Broncos previously placed a second-round tender on restricted free agent cornerback Ja’Quan McMillian and gave a two-year contract extension to versatile offensive lineman Alex Palczewski. Denver also gave one-year tenders to all four of the team’s exclusive rights free agents. The NFL’s free agency negotiating window opens on Monday.
