Merrimack has officially added Filip Nordberg to its 2025-26 roster, cementing a move that had been rumored for most of the summer. At 6-foot-5, the Swedish defenseman arrives from Sioux Falls (USHL), where he had been waiting on final NCAA eligibility clearance before joining the Warriors.

A second-round pick of the Ottawa Senators, Nordberg now holds the distinction of being the highest-drafted player in Merrimack history. Previously, the program’s top NHL ties had been a trio of third-rounders: Johnathan Kovacevic (Winnipeg), Anthony Aquino (Dallas), and Jim Hrivnak (Washington).

Hailing from Stockholm, Nordberg logged 24 points (6g-18a) in 55 games with Sioux Falls last season while racking up 105 penalty minutes, showcasing both his offensive touch and physical edge. Before that, he skated with the Muskegon Lumberjacks (USHL) in 2023-24.

With Filip Nordberg officially on board, Merrimack enters the upcoming season carrying eight defensemen on its roster. The depth chart now features:

  • Matthew Campbell (Jr.)

  • Cam Kungle (Jr.)

  • Austin Oravetz (Jr.)

  • Seamus Powell (Jr.)

  • Nathan King (Soph.)

  • Ethan Beyer (Fr.)

  • Hunter Mayo (Fr.)

  • Filip Nordberg (Fr.)
