The North Miami Community Redevelopment Agency is rolling out two new grant programs aimed at expanding homeownership and boosting local businesses, part of a broader push to strengthen neighborhoods and economic activity across the city.

The initiatives — a first-time homebuyer assistance program and a small business entertainment grant — were both championed by NMCRA Board Vice Chair Kassandra Timothe and target residents and businesses within the agency’s redevelopment boundaries.

The First-Time Homebuyer Program offers up to $10,000 in down payment and closing cost assistance for eligible buyers purchasing homes in North Miami. The program is designed for households earning between 50% and 120% of Miami-Dade County’s median income and can be used for single-family homes, townhouses or condominiums.

“Homeownership is one of the most powerful ways families can build stability and generational wealth,” Timothe said in a press release. “This program is designed to remove some of the financial barriers that prevent many residents from purchasing their first home and to ensure that more families can invest in their future right here in North Miami.”

To qualify, applicants must be first-time homebuyers — defined as those who have not owned a home within the last three years — and must obtain mortgage pre-approval, complete a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development-approved homebuyer education course, and contribute at least $2,000 toward the purchase.

Recipients are also required to occupy the home as their primary residence for at least five years, a provision aimed at encouraging long-term neighborhood stability.

Applications are free, and preference will be given to applicants who live or work in North Miami, according to the agency.

Alongside its housing efforts, the NMCRA is also launching the “See It In Nomi” Entertainment Grant Program, which provides up to $2,500 to eligible restaurants and entertainment venues to enhance their customer experience.

The funding can be used to purchase large-screen televisions, projectors, sound equipment and promotional materials that allow businesses to broadcast sports, concerts and other entertainment. The program comes as businesses prepare for increased visibility and tourism tied to upcoming international events, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“This program is about creating exciting spaces in North Miami where residents and visitors can gather, enjoy great food, and experience entertainment together,” Timothe said. “By helping our local businesses enhance their venues, we are also strengthening the economic vitality of the entire community.”

To qualify, businesses must be for-profit food service or entertainment establishments with indoor seating located within the NMCRA boundaries and hold all required licenses in good standing.

Grants will be awarded on a first-qualified, first-served basis.

The dual programs reflect the NMCRA’s ongoing efforts to address both housing access and economic development in North Miami, supporting residents seeking to purchase homes while also investing in small businesses that anchor the city’s commercial corridors.

Residents and business owners interested in either program can contact the NMCRA office to begin the application process.
