The Ohio State football program is reloading after a strong 2023-24 season. Ohio State is set to bring in a highly touted recruiting class for the Fall 2024 season. Yet, the Buckeyes are making moves for 2026 as well. Ohio State extended an offer to former Washington Commanders (formerly Washington Redskins) running back Clinton Portis’ son Camdin.

Three-star cornerback recruit Camdin Portis confirmed his offer in an exciting X post:

“After a great camp, I am blessed to say I’ve earned an offer from The Ohio State University,” Portis wrote.

Camdin Portis is 247 Sports’ No. 15 prospect in the Class of 2026, as noted by The Spun. He recorded two interceptions and 10 pass breakups as a sophomore at Myers Park High School. Furthermore, 247 Sports scout Cooper Petagna gave a strong review of Portis’ abilities after May’s Under Armour Next Camp.

“Best described as an ‘efficient mover,’ Portis’ combination of patience, suddenness, and short area change of direction are very well suited as a man-to-man defender,” Petagna wrote. “Although the physical traits pop, Portis’ coverage instincts and ability to play the ball in the air are areas of his game that are well beyond his peers.”

Will Portis be one of the headlines of Ohio State’s Class of 2026 recruiting class? In addition to the Buckeyes, the cornerback has received offers from other high-level schools. His list includes Akron, Tennessee, Auburn, and Missouri.

It will be interesting to see the decision the young Portis makes amid his high school ascent.

Ohio State football continues preparations for 2024-25 season amid recruiting buzz

Ohio State finished the 2023-24 season with an 11-2 record. They nearly made the College Football Playoff but their loss to Michigan in the Big 10 title game erased their hopes. Still, the Buckeyes should have another strong showing in 2024-25 and beyond.

Ryan Day and company are looking for both short and long-term success. Their stellar recruiting efforts are further captured by their Class of 2025 commitments.

“Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes got another significant addition to the nation’s top college football recruiting class in the 2025 cycle Sunday, getting a commitment from safety Faheem Delane, the No. 52 overall prospect in the 2025 ESPN 300,” ESPN’s Eli Lederman wrote in early June. “Delane, a standout defensive back at Maryland’s Good Counsel High School, picked Ohio State over LSU and Oregon following an official visit with the Buckeyes over the weekend. He is ESPN’s second-ranked recruit in the state of Maryland and the No. 4 safety in the 2025 class.”

As strong as the Buckeyes may be in 2024, their future roster will be stacked. Of course, losing former contributors will still hurt. Ohio State lost the services of star wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. to the 2024 NFL Draft. Nevertheless, Ryan Day’s new squad looks to be prepared for whatever challenges lie in their path.
