TULSA, Okla. — The Oklahoma Hispanic Hall of Fame held its 2026 induction ceremony on Monday at the River Spirit Casino.
Cherokee Nation Councilor Joe Deere was there to offer special remarks and recognized the shared commitment between tribal nations and Oklahoma’s Hispanic communities in advancing leadership, education, and cultural preservation.
Councilor Deere said partnerships in Oklahoma are a great thing for our communities.
“Hispanic and tribal communities share a legacy of resilience,” said Deere. “Today’s honorees reflect that unity.”
The founder and CEO of Oklahoma Hispanic Institute, Fred Mendoza, was also in attendance. He provided closing remarks and focused on the institute’s mission for the State of Oklahoma.
2026 Oklahoma Hispanic Hall of Fame
Several people were nominated for induction into the hall of fame. The nominees are as follows:
- David Hill, Principal Chief of the Muscogee (Creek) nation
- Robert J. LaFortune, Mayor of Tulsa (Posthumous)
- Tina Pena, Tulsa Community College
- Jesse Guardiola, Oklahoma State Department of Education
- Elsie Ureta Pollock, CEO of Tulsa Honor Academy
- Dr. Crystal Hernandez, author and executive consultant
- Jacob Parra, CEO of the Tulsa Hispanic American Foundation
“It’s an honor to stand with leaders who strengthen our state through education and cultural pride,” said David Hill.
Several other people were also honored with Aguila/Eagle awards:
- Juan Miret, President of San Miguel School
- Abidin Erez, Superintendent of Dove Schools
- Dr. Maritza Cartagena, CEO of Tulsa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce
- Laura Martinez, Attorney with red Dirt Legal
- Alejandro Munozcano, Marketing Manager for Telemundo/Tyler Media
- Krystal Reyes, Deputy Mayor of Tulsa
- Cynthia Jasso, Executive for the Kaiser Family Foundation
