Oklahoma State Has ‘Everything in Place’ to Make College Football Playoff

It might be perfectly fine for Oklahoma State to go under the radar to start the 2024 season — because the Cowboys might have a team this year that knows how to finish.

Oklahoma State came in at No. 26 in ESPN’s preseason Football Power Index ratings, which put the Cowboys fourth on the FPI in the Big 12 behind No. 17 Kansas, No. 22 Kansas State and No. 24 Arizona.

ESPN’s Chris Low thought the FPI undervalued Oklahoma State and pointed out that with 21 starters returning and arguably the nation’s top running back in Ollie Gordon II, the Cowboys have “everything in place” to make a run at the Big 12 championship and a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Oklahoma went 10-4 in 2023 and lost to Texas in the Big 12 Championshp Game. They capped the season with a win over Texas A&M in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Oklahoma State opens the season at home against two-time defending FCS champion South Dakota State on Aug. 31.
