Omaha organization gives away Thanksgiving meals to families in need
The National Latino Peace Officers Association of Omaha is giving out 150 Thanksgiving meals to metro area families.

YES, THEY HAVE QUITE THE CREW GETTING EVERYTHING SET UP AND READY TO GIVE OUT 150 THANKSGIVING MEALS HERE TODAY. AND JOINING ME IS ANTHONY CERVANTES. HE’S THE COMMUNITY LIAISON FOR THE ORGANIZATION. ANTHONY, CAN YOU TELL ME A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THIS EFFORT? YEAH, ABSOLUTELY. SO WE’RE THE NATIONAL LATINO PEACE OFFICERS ASSOCIATION, THE OMAHA CHAPTER, AND WE’RE REALLY FOCUSED ON GIVING BACK TO OUR COMMUNITY. AND THIS IS JUST ONE OF THE THE BIGGEST WAYS THAT WE CAN DO IT RIGHT NOW, WHICH IS THE TURKEY MEAL GIVEAWAY. SO WE PICKED ABOUT 150 FAMILIES FROM OPS SCHOOLS, DISPLACED FAMILIES. THE PACE ORGANIZATION, AND WE SELECT THOSE FAMILIES FOR THEM TO COME AND PICK UP ESSENTIAL INGREDIENTS TO MAKE TURKEY MAT. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE DIFFERENT THINGS THAT YOU GUYS ARE GIVING AWAY TO? WE’RE GIVING AWAY. WE HAVE A TURKEY, GREEN BEANS, CORN, STUFFING, DESSERT, BREAD, POTATOES. SO ESSENTIALLY EVERYTHING THAT THEY NEED TO MAKE A NICE TURKEY HOLIDAY MEAL FOR THEIR FAMILIES. YEAH, THAT SOUNDS WONDERFUL. THIS SOUNDS LIKE A REALLY BIG UNDERTAKING. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET EVERYTHING SET UP AND READY TO GO FOR TODAY? SO REALLY, IT’S A YEAR ROUND EVENT OF PLANNING. BUT FOR THE PAST SIX MONTHS IT’S REALLY BEEN WE REALLY NEED TO FOCUS AND GEAR DOWN. The holidays can be a difficult time for those with financial barriers, but the National Latino Peace Officers Association of Omaha is hoping to make it a little easier.On Nov. 22, they’re giving out 150 Thanksgiving meals to metro area families. The team spent several hours assembling boxes and getting ready to hand them out to families throughout Omaha. The boxes contain turkey, pie, potatoes and everything else needed for a Thanksgiving feast.
