ADELPHI, Md. — During the 2025-26 academic year, University of Maryland Global Campus recognized Nicholas Norris of Bedford for service on the Student Insight Council.
Volunteers play a vital role in shaping the UMGC experience by providing feedback that helps create a stronger future for the university community.
FBLA students
win awards
Students from South Hills School of Business & Technology in State College won top prizes at Future Business Leaders of America, Inc.’s National Leadership Conference.
The event, held in Las Vegas, Nevada, from June 6 to June 8, attracted college students, educators and volunteers from across the country. The NLC provides education, competition and networking opportunities centered on business.
More than 1,300 attendees from nearly 200 colleges and universities in 29 U.S. states and territories competed in 42 business-related events for scholarships and cash prizes totaling nearly $60,000.
This year, the following students participated in the FBLA National events:
n Emily Boyd of State College, second place, Foundations of Hospitality Management
n Nora May of Port Matilda, seventh place, Foundations of Management
n Matthew Harkins of Altoona, ninth place, Business Communications.
All students participated, tested and were awarded the Southwest Airlines Professional Communications certification.
Student competes at FBLA Conference
ANNVILLE — Shelly Bliss of Huntingdon is one of six Lebanon Valley College students who competed at the Future Business Leaders of America National Conference in June.
Bliss, a graduate of Mount Union High School, is pursuing a bachelor of science in exercise science at LVC. Bliss placed fifth in impromptu speaking.
CU student named
to Phi Kappa Phi
BATON ROUGE, La. — Abigail Sutton of DuBois was recently elected to membership into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society, at Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania.
Sutton is among approximately 20,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year.
Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership.
Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.
Student-athlete earns honor roll
ANNVILLE — Sam Crilly of Tyrone was one of more than 250 Lebanon Valley College student-athletes to be named to the Middle Atlantic Conference’s Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll.
Crilly, a graduate of Tyrone Area High School, is a member of the Lebanon Valley College men’s basketball team, and is pursuing a bachelor of arts in exploratory.
The academic honor roll is comprised of student-athletes who compete in a varsity-level sport and register a term/semester GPA of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) or higher. The MAC honored student-athletes across all of the conference’s institutions who competed in winter and spring sports.
