PHOENIX — A woman is dead and four children are hurt after a crash at the intersection of 19th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road Friday afternoon, according to Phoenix police.

Police say a 25-year-old woman and her infant were taken to a hospital in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. The woman later died at the hospital.

The infant remains in critical condition.

Three other children were also hospitalized, but their conditions have improved.

Police believe a 23-year-old man was driving a silver sedan at a high rate of speed southbound on 19th Avenue and accelerated on a yellow light when witnesses say he crashed into a black pickup truck.

The 75-year-old man was driving the black pickup truck when he attempted to make a left turn onto Lower Buckeye. The man was uninjured.

Authorities told ABC15 at the scene that the woman and four children were in the silver sedan. Police say that the children were not in safety seats.

Officials say a final charging decision will be made once the crash reconstruction is completed.
