LIMESTONE, Maine (WAGM) – The Loring Development Authority held an event to mark the end of Operation Northern Phoenix Year Two at the former Loring Air Force Base. The event highlighted the continued partnership between the Loring Development Authority, military partners, and participating agencies involved in the Northern Phoenix training operations.
Jonathan Judkins, the Loring Development Authority’s President and CEO said, “We’re here celebrating Operation Northern Phoenix Year 2. It’s a collaboration between several New England guard, and air guard, and active units. Illustrating that Loring and its facilities are still useful for training and still as functional as they were when they closed the doors in 1993. Already year 2 has resulted in more units establishing that they would like to come again next year and expand their footprint and operations. This last week Loring has been transformed from a former military installation to an active military installation. With a combination of the different units, it certainly felt like it was back when it was still active and open.”
Military personnel are expected to wrap up operations and leave Loring tonight. The LDA says it is grateful for the service members and agencies involved, adding that the collaboration helped show Loring still has more to contribute to the defense of the nation.
