MUSCLE SHOALS – Northwest Shoals Community College will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month on Thursday, October 10. This celebration will commence with a special event, Pachanga (Party) with the Patriots, on the Shoals campus beginning at 5pm.
The event is sponsored by the NWSCC Foundation and Adult Education Program. According to Adult Education Program Executive Director, Tara Branscome, the College’s Adult Education program was encouraged by the great attendance and feedback from last year’s inaugural event.
“Educating our community is the core of who we are within the Northwest Shoals Adult Education program,” said Branscome. “This is a way to spread awareness of our services and reach our growing Hispanic community. We are having remarkable growth in our English as a Second Language classes, and we thought this family-friendly event would be a tremendous opportunity to celebrate the Hispanic culture while increasing awareness of all the other free services we offer the community.”
The event will feature authentic Hispanic cuisine, Chinelos live performers, music, dancing, tortilla making, piñatas, art exhibits, arts and crafts, and more.
To go along with English as a Second Language and Citizenship classes, the NWSCC Adult Education program offers free GED preparation classes, job skills training and certifications, Alabama Career Essentials training, and nontraditional high school diploma classes.
