The sweet aroma of freshly baked conchas—Mexico’s beloved shell-shaped pastries— will fill Villa Parke Community Center on Saturday, October 4, as in Pasadena celebrates Latino heritage through the universal language of traditional bread-making.
The Pan Dulce “Concha” Workshop offers hands-on cultural immersion during National Latino Heritage Month, which spans September 15 to October 15. This period commemorates the independence anniversaries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.
Participants will learn to create the iconic Mexican sweet bread, with its distinctive shell pattern scored into sugar-crusted tops. The workshop provides an authentic taste of Latino culture during the month-long celebration of Hispanic contributions to American society.
The timing coincides perfectly with the national observance that began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week before expanding to a full month in 1988. The celebration specifically honors the September independence dates shared by multiple Central American nations.
Through flour, sugar and shared stories, the workshop highlights ancestral traditions while building bridges to future generations in Pasadena’s diverse community.
Pan Dulce “Concha” Workshop will run on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Villa Parke Community Center, 363 E Villa St. Pasadena. For more information call (626) 744-6350 or visit https://www.visitpasadena.com/events/pan-dulce-concha-workshop/. Ticket: Free
