A Frontier spokesperson said the aircraft parked at a remote location while law enforcement responded.
ATLANTA — A passenger on a flight from Columbus to Atlanta made a verbal bomb threat on Sunday, forcing the pilots to park the plane at a remote location as law enforcement responded, according to a spokesperson for Frontier Airlines.
The spokesperson said the passenger made the threat shortly after Frontier flight 2539 landed at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and was taxiing to the gate.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation in Atlanta described the person making the threat as an “unruly passenger.”
As a precaution, the Frontier spokesperson said the aircraft was parked at a remote location while law enforcement responded. Other passengers deplaned by airstairs and were bused to the terminal.
The spokesperson noted that the threat was deemed non-credible. The FBI said that there is no continuing threat related to the incident.
10TV’s sister station 11Alive reported that audio communications between the Frontier pilot and the Air Traffic Control tower revealed that the passenger making the threat also threatened to kill a woman sitting next to him.
The FBI said it was coordinating with the Atlanta Police Department to investigate the incident, and it would consult with the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Northern District of Georgia to determine if any federal charges would be filed.
