The Penn State football program is awaiting on-field reinforcements this fall via players returning from injuries. A pair of talented defenders who missed spring practices were among Nittany Lions spotlighted Wednesday during a press conference with head strength and conditioning coach Reid Kagy.

Kagy followed Matt Campbell from Iowa State last winter and is instrumental in preparing PSU for 2026 season kickoff. Following an annual Lift for Life event on campus, he provided progress reports on linebacker Tony Rojas and defensive end Max Granville.

Both suffered knee injuries last year, limiting Rojas to four game appearances and keeping Granville sidelined throughout the 2025 campaign. Each is on track to participate in preseason camp.

Rojas’ decision to remain on campus was among the most notable roster developments for a new coaching staff. Defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn recently called him a defensive “centerpiece”.

“Tony has done a great job, and Tony is progressing,” Kagy said. “… I’m proud of Tony.”
