University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign recognizes Ferrari for entrepreneurship, engineering excellence and leadership in domestic energy

IRVINE, Calif., August 18, 2026–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Phoenix Energy has announced that founder and Phoenix Energy CEO Adam Ferrari has been selected to receive the 2026 Young Alumni Achievement Award from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering.

The award recognizes alumni for professional distinction demonstrated through leadership, contributions to their field, creativity and entrepreneurship, and service to society and the university community. Ferrari, who earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois in 2005, is one of three recipients of the department’s 2026 Young Alumni Achievement Award.

The university recognized Ferrari “for founding and leading a rapidly growing domestic energy company; and for advancing innovation through visionary entrepreneurship and engineering excellence.”

“Receiving this recognition from the University of Illinois is incredibly meaningful to me,” Ferrari said. “I really valued my time in Champaign. Getting a quality engineering education helped shape the way I approach problems, evaluate risk and ultimately build businesses like Phoenix Energy.”

Ferrari graduated magna cum laude from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign before beginning his career with BP America. His experience as a chemical engineer in the oil and gas industry eventually led him to entrepreneurship and, ultimately, the founding of Phoenix Energy.

Under Ferrari’s leadership, Phoenix Energy has expanded its domestic oil and gas operations, with a major operational focus in North Dakota’s Williston Basin. In announcing the award, the university highlighted Phoenix Energy’s drilling achievements in North Dakota’s Bakken formation and Ferrari’s approach to combining engineering with innovative methods of capital formation.

Ferrari has also demonstrated a commitment to education through his philanthropic efforts. He established the Phoenix Energy Scholarship to support students pursuing energy-related fields, while the Ferrari Foundation offers the Adam Ferrari Health Science Scholarship for students pursuing health sciences who are interested in improving care for people with physical disabilities.

“For me, engineering has always been not just a discipline, but a worldview,” Ferrari said. “It teaches you how to think, how to solve problems and how to keep working when the answer isn’t obvious. I’m proud of my degree, and I’m proud that the work our team at Phoenix Energy is doing contributed to this recognition from the University of Illinois.”

Ferrari and the other 2026 award recipients are scheduled to be recognized during the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering’s Alumni Awards Ceremony in October.
